Do You Know?

Doyou

Transparent soaps look so good to hold against the light and see through. A lot many adverts have that image. Do you know how a plain jane bar of soap turns transparent?

Transparent soap is made by adding alcohol to the soap; and that too 80%-90% ABV alcohol. Such high alcohol content is very drying for the skin. It strips the skin of the natural oil. This can leave the skin scratchy and itchy. It can also cause flakiness. Bereft of its natural oil barrier, the skin can become prone to rashes too.

Choose a soap which is good for you, not just good to look at; much like choosing a life partner 😉

FAQ: Its just soap, why bother with natural?

faq1

Do we eat just about anything being sold in the market? I bet all of us look at the way the food is prepared, the ingredients, hygiene levels before ordering food.  And if its junk food, we steer away quickly.

What we put on our skin requires just as much thought. Skin is the largest organ of our body and to take care of it requires that we keep it clean, balanced and let it breath.

Commercial soaps are like junk food. They have chemicals, fillers and colors added just to make the soap look good, not because those ingredients are good for our skin. These soaps are stripped off the natural glycerin even though it’s one of the best things for skin. This makes the skin dry and scratchy. The same glycerin is then sold back to us to treat the dry skin caused by such harsh soaps.

Swarnkrita Natural soaps have all ingredients chosen for their benefit to the skin, not just to beautify the soap. Natural products like glycerin remain in the soap to benefit the user. Instead of soaps made from synthetic chemicals , I prefer the ones made from natural ingredients.

Soap is even better than makeup, it makes the skin glow from the inside.

Weekend fun… Packing Soap :-)

Weekends are usually the time when I get to work on Soap batches. Work like researching some new essential oil combination or trying a new recipe, designing packaging etc all get my attention during the weekends. Spent the morning designing and packing the new batch of unscented coffee soap. It has turned out quite good I think, how do you like it?

Unscented soaps are great for you if you find the factory made soaps chemical scents overpowering.

Coffee makes the soap so plush and mild on the skin.

Guess what!!!

Our Skin in not neutral, unlike what the big soap companies would have us believe. It is actually a bit acidic. Essential requirement to fight all the germs and micro organisms floating around. Ph-neutral soaps have chemicals added to make it so, and this disturbs the acidic balance of our skin. Use natural soaps and let the skin show its magic.

Frankincense & Cinnamon Soap

Hi Ladies,

Spent time today making a fabulous batch of Frankincense soap. Also added some fresh ground cinnamon to it. The result is this beautiful loaf of soap. Have a look at some pics of the making and cutting. Now the soap is sitting pretty and curing for atleast 3-4 weeks before it is ready to ship. Do let me know if you want to reserve some for yourself!!!

And keep watching this space for more info.

Detox your skin

usthem.png

Skin comes in contact with pollutants on daily basis. On top of the dirt and bacteria it touches, skin also absorbs any chemicals in the soaps you use to wash yourself.

One look at the ingredients and you know which side is laden with chemicals. On top of these are the added artificial colors and fragrances to the commercial soaps.

Handmade cold process soaps not only cleanse the skin but also give the benefit of pure essential oils and moisturizing properties of butters added to them.

Choose Natural, Choose Pure, Choose Better.

Winter Skin

SYSkinWinter’s dry air takes a toll on our skin and strips it of all its moisture. Here are a few tips to rejuvenate the skin.

  1. Caffeine is a diuretic and makes our body rid itself of water. During winters, this causes the skin to dry out as our body does not have enough water to hydrate it. More so, the winter cold means we are drinking less water than normal which adds to the effect and leads us to the second tip 🙂
  2. Drink as much water as possible. In fact liquid in any form like a bowl of hot soup, a cup of milk, some juice in the morning, anything which adds up to our daily quota of liquids.
  3. Commercial soaps contain sulfates which strip our skin of the natural oil it produces to keep the skin moist and soft. While our skin may feel squeaky clean initially, it is actually too dry for this weather. Sometimes, our skin overcompensates by producing too much oil and we exaggerate the problem by repeating the cycle of washing with harsh, chemical laden cleansers. Use soft and mild soaps which are high on moisturizing oils and dont contain any chemicals.
  4. Oils like coconut, sesame etc are severely under-rated. Many times we consider applying oil as too old fashioned for our smart selves and instead resort to “upmarket” products. However, these oils are truly wonderful and make our skin moist from within. Ayurveda lists so many benefits of these oils. Coconut Oil and Castor Oil are readily absorbed by the skin and do not give the sticky feeling we sometimes associate with oils.

Try these tips and let me know any other natural ways you use to keep your skin moist and supple.
